Ghanaian musician Jehoshaphat Kwabena Eshun famed as Skrewfaze has recounted how a popular Ghanaian DJ of a radio station said he was never going to play Gbalagazaa because it was a useless song.

While speaking in an interview with DJ Master P in an exclusive Facebook Live interview, Skrewfaze said when he released Gbalagazaa, he was taking it round to radio stations to get them to play it.

He said when he got to a particular radio station, the DJ told him he was not going to play the song because he did not expect such a song from Skrewfaze.

According to the DJ the genre of music that was in vogue at the time was Crank Music so he was wondering how Gbalagazaa was going to compete with such songs

Skrewfaze said he then called DJ Lalu who was a student in GIJ by then and met up with him to give him the Gbalagazaa CD.

The Labadi hitmaker said after listening to the song, DJ Lalu was impressed and asked him to give him 2 months to promote the song for him.

According to Skrewfaze, true to DJ Lalu’s words, Gbalagazaa grew to become a hit and it landed him his first international gig in Equatorial Guinea where he performed with the likes of Kofi Nti and Barima Sydney.

Skrewfaze revealed that it was a 3-day performance which saw him linking up with other African stars like Freddy Meiway and DJ Arafat.
